Learn how to use your device on another carrier or wireless provider's network.  This may also be known as SIM unlock, network unlock, or carrier unlock.

What's a Device Unlock

  • Device Unlock lets you use your device with another carrier, for things like international travel or selling your device.
  • This is different from Domestic or International roaming, where you use a T-Mobile SIM/eSIM to access a different wireless provider's network.

Check unlock status & eligibility

Once your device is eligible, T-Mobile will automatically unlock the device within two business days if it supports remote unlock.

T-Mobile.com account

  1. Log into your T-Mobile Account and choose the Accounts page.
  2. Select the line you wish to unlock, then choose Check device unlock status.
  3. Under the device image, check if your device is eligible to be unlocked. Review Device Unlock Policy for a list of eligibility requirements.

T-Life / T-Mobile app

  1. Open the T-Life / T-Mobile app and choose the Manage tab.
  2. Select the line you wish to unlock. You may need to choose Manage all first.
  3. View the 'Device lock status' field. Select Device lock status for additional details.
    • Under the device image, view your progress toward device unlock eligibility.
    • Review Device Unlock Policy for a list of eligibility requirements.

Motorola device is saying it is SIM unlocked

If your Motorola device is eligible for a SIM unlock but the unlock doesn't complete, you may be able to refresh the unlock request.

Before you start

  • Make sure:
    • Your device is connected to Wi-Fi or the T-Mobile network.
    • Your device remains powered on during the refresh.

Refresh the unlock request

  • When the SIM Unlock message appears, tap the More options menu (⋮) in the upper-right corner.
  • Select Refresh.
  • Wait while your device checks for and downloads the latest SIM unlock information.
  • Follow any additional on-screen prompts.

What to expect

If the refresh is successful, your device downloads the SIM unlock automatically. Once complete, you can use your device with another compatible wireless provider's SIM card.

If the issue continues

  • Try the following:
    • Restart your device.
    • Verify you're connected to Wi-Fi or the T-Mobile network.
    • Wait a few minutes, then try Refresh again.

If your device still doesn't receive the SIM unlock, contact T-Mobile Customer Care for additional assistance.
